North Middlesex is primarily an agriculture municipality with two large
and two small communities. The two largest are the Town of Parkhill and
the Village of Ailsa Craig. Hwy 7 connects Parkhill to Ailsa Craig. The two
small communities are Nairn and Carlisle. Although very different in size
and population, both Parkhill and Ailsa Craig display the same enthusiasm
and pride in their communities. Parkhill is an ideal spot to stop and spend
a few hours. Shop, explore and uncover the distinct treasures found only
in its downtown shops. Parking is abundant and several restaurants offer
quality food and exceptional service. During the summer months amazing
floral displays line the main street. It is a time when the boulevards become
a wash of brilliant colours. Boulevards featuring manicured flower beds with
family names planted alongside daisies, snap dragons and pansies. One very
popular event is the annual Cardboard Boat Races. In the fall Parkhill’s fair
and night-time Santa Claus parade are popular annual events enjoyed by
locals and visitors alike. Be sure to drive down Hwy 7 (a popular route to the
town of Stratford for the Shakespearean Festival). You will come upon the
friendly village of Ailsa Craig. On the main street are charming shops and
restaurants. Even more hidden treasures await you along the side streets.
How about incredibly unique quilts? Ailsa Craig hosts a spectacular annual
quilt show. Or the annual Native Re-Enactment in June. Or the Ailsa Craig
Gala Days featuring the “Turtle Races”, in July. There are many things to see
and do in North Middlesex. Undeniably, a visit to the region truly is time well
spent. |
