Joany’s Woods is a 367 acre (148.5 ha) conservation area in the municipality of North Middlesex in Middlesex County, about a 45 minute drive northwest of London.
Joany’s Woods is included in Carolinian Canada’s Ausable River Valley Site and is part of a Provincially-recognized Area of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI). The Ausable River valley is the second most important Carolinian botanical site in Middlesex County. Bordered by the Ausable River to the west, Joany’s Woods is surrounded by hardwood swamps in the north and east. The rest of the property consists of mature upland and lowland forest, scrubby areas and a number of sizable plantations.
Joany’s Woods was purchased by the Thames Talbot Land Trust and is accessible at the south end from County Road 7 (Elginfield Road) and at the north end from Boot Hill Road. The property contains various landforms and rare species of scientific value. A hiking trail through the property is part of an extension of the Ausable Trail, and the property also contains two trails system used for hiking and bird watching. Trail guides are available for download from the Thames Talbot Land trust website.
